Bio
Suzy King is an interdisciplinary artist currently based in the North Okanagan, on the unceded, ancestral territories of the Splatsin (Secwepemc) and Syilx (Okanagan) peoples. She recently relocated from Vancouver's DTES, where she lived and created art for 15 years.
Starting with a foundation in photography, her practice evolved into three dimensions over time. Fascinated by how light shapes and reveals texture, her photographic set designs grew into immersive installations, while her still images transformed into video making, and sound collecting. She explores the interplay of various mediums - soft sculpture, cardboard, video, sound, and performance - using them to create emotional and sensory experiences.

Artist
Statement
At its core, my art explores how space shapes our behaviors, emotions, and wellbeing. Drawing inspiration from filmmaking, architecture, nature, and childhood memories, I blend sensory impressions of real places with cinematic worlds. This process often results in work that evokes a sense of nostalgia, sometimes tempered with dark and/or playful undertones- described as pop surrealism with a minimalist, tactile, approach.
My perspective as a woman, natural observer, and collaborator, along with personal experiences of trauma and healing, deeply informs my work. Through these creations, I aim to make spaces that invite viewers to be present and reflect on their own emotional landscapes.
